Strong traditions for a great future
As a strategic business division of ZF Friedrichshafen AG, ZF Trading was founded in July of 2002 when the business activities of Lemförder International AG & Co. KG (LMI) headquartered in Bremen and Sachs Handel GmbH headquartered in Schweinfurt were consolidated. The new trading company is pursuing proud traditions in automobile construction, such as that of Fichtel & Sachs, founded in 1895 as the "Schweinfurt Precision Ball Bearings Plant". This company equipped the victorious Silver Arrows back in the 1930s with clutches and dampers, and later made a name for itself with the first automatic transmission known as the Saxomat. After joining the Mannesmann corporate group in 1987, the Sachs Group was integrated into ZF Friedrichshafen AG in 2001.
Lemförder Metallwaren was a typical start-up in the reconstruction period following the second world war, transforming itself from a hardware factory in 1948 to a leading automotive supplier whose subsidiary LMI (Lemförder International AG & Co. KG, Bremen) became known as a reliable trading partner for replacement parts in the suspension and steering fields. The Lemförder Group joined ZF Friedrichshafen AG in 1984.
